You are in the minority.

For racing, virtually every car is now belt drive, the main reason being no torque steer. The belts also cushion some of the shocks through the drivetrain to give a smoother feel, shaft cars can feel a bit snappy.

For bashing, sometimes a shaft drive can be a little easier, mainly because they tend to be better sealed from the environment. That is the only benefit though.
