Reedy had mod motors maybe 10-15 years ago where the armature segment on the top was bent on each side to make sort of a fan. I think they were called the Sonic series but I could be wrong on that. I do remember they had a bigger comm though.
This is the same thing the stock has, minus the big comm. It does move a lot of air around inside the motor though to help keep it cool. Curtis Schacht at DC Motorsports did this on some mod's for me a few years back and it gave them a wicked sound and did help keep them a little cooler.
