If you start 1/8th immediately with a fast engine, you will learn to drive the car from corner to corner, instead of learn how to let the car roll through a corner.
The Novarossi N21-3T (3-ports engine) is a good option to begin with, I think.
Mega will come with a 3 ports engine also, the Mega ZX21 "Ace", half the price of the DSII.... but when.... I don't know......
