Risking the posibility of opening up a huge can of worms by suggesting one method of running in a motor is better than another I will just say that I also used the heat cycling method and the engine performed like a dream.
It seems the idling of a tank or so is no longer required, now even the OS manual doesn't even suggest idling a tank through.
I would suggest anyone about to run in a motor is to find out as much information they can and to go with the method that makes sense to them. I use the heat cycling method as described in this link if anyone is interested.

Something I think everyone agrees on is to never over-rev, over-load or over-heat the engine during the run in period.
