Manufacturers have improved the safety of the cells in that time. Well, some of them have. Battery technology is far from perfect, but it does seem to improve with time, and will surely continue to do so. We will always be caught somewhere in the wake of battery technology, and should do our best to adapt and evolve as it improves.
