No you can use standard batteries. We have not seen huge differences.
The weight of the cars will still have to meet specs regardless.
I think the majority of people will be using standard 6 cell configurations anyway.
We had some people that do not have 6 cell batteries anymore wanting to race but couldn't because they are exclusively Lipo now.
