Mike, I agree with you 100%. I rarely use the temp gun except when I'm breaking in the engine to be sure it's over 200 degrees.
Tuning for performance is the only way to go. For what it's worth, my V-spec comes off a 5 minute qualifier usually between 230 to 250 degrees. And I use 20% nitro with the P3 plug.
