The gears have nothing to do with how a brushless motor works. First gif is a brushed motor animation. To put it simple, the windings rotate on an armature in the middle of the magnets.

On a brushless, the magnets rotate inside the windings, which are now stationary in the motor can.

Hope this helps, I'm trying to put it as simple as possible
