Asphalt mostly, but a car that can adapt to both would be nice. I've seen many a battey pack "touch" when its 2x2 with a wire in the middle and they are a hassle to use.
like I said on asphault a t-bar is the way to go, or the BMI D12R. A t-bar will work on both asphault and carpet, but you will have a hard time adapting a pod style car to asphault. All you have to do when using a saddle pack is have a little common sense and handle it appropriatly, if you can do that then there is no reason to fear a saddle pack.
