I would use a ultra sonic cleaner. I've had mine for years. Just put your cleaning agent in and turn it on.You don't have to mess with the seals- all the grit will come out. Dry them out and spin them to see if they are worn out. Reoil and they are ready to go.I also use the USC to re oil the bearings with Marvel Mystery oil the same way.
I got my stainless steam tub cleaner I think I ordered it from a jewelry store many years ago. I did try one of those cheap plastic jobs - only the plastic melted with the cleaning agent.
