For the TRF shocks, I prefer to use the 5mm ball ends instead of the shock collar/screws that came in the "R" kit. You can get a bag of brass balls, or go with blue aluminum for extra bling (TAM53642).

As for the steering rub, I'm assuming you are rubbing the gear case. They included a set of spacers to push the servo farther forward if you use a servo that does not have enough height from the mounting ears. Take a look and see if that would help.
