You dont have to bother sanding down the side but its better for the chassis if you round of the bottom edge.
You do need to file down the battery slots and also the slots where the tape goes through (or at least the side of the tape slots where the tape wraps around ie. the bottom of the chassis on the edge closest to where the batteries sit, otherwise the tape will tear on the sharp carbon fibre edge in crashes)
