The chemical reaction I believe is called galvanic reaction. It's on like metal as Matt Howard said. Aluminum screws to an aluminum piece will eventually "cold weld" themselves together into one piece.
Ray, galling is what happens when you machine titanium. Galling will happen when the surface is rubbed so those that like titanium hingepins and ball ends this is something to think about.....
