Have a look around, see what appeals and don't be talked into a $400-$700 car before you're certain of what way is for you!

Personally I'd get a cheap bunky TL01 which can run both onroad or off road (minor set up changes, shell, wheels etc) and see what you have more fun with, it won't be competitive but no newbie is, it's all about fun anyway!
