Sending details by fax is safest; its near impossible to intercept a fax telephone call to give you usable data. Email might not be 'secure' but heck, I wouldn't be too worried either. There are easier ways to steal creditcard numbers than to eavesdrop on every darned email message.
Back when I was a paranoid freak, I went as far as
putting my card details onto a jpg/bmp and then emailing that instead.
Just check your creditcard bill regularly and if any wierd transactions turn up, you just call up your bank to dispute them. Then the onus is on the card merchant to prove that the cardholder has authorised the transaction, if not then they get chargedback.
Nah, the biggest ripoff will always be the exchange rate the banks use to calculate your AUD amt owed!!
