I just got done building a Team Magic M1-B 1/8th scale buggy. I think the engineering of this buggy is pretty impressive, and I think most of the car magazine’s reviews would agree.

Anyway, the front steering knuckles use plastic padded setscrews against the threads of the upper and lower kingpins (4 total) to hold the kingpins in place.

Since Frank has an Industrial Engineering degree from SUNY and the consensus of the Team Magic engineers from Taiwan, I think you can tell your friend that yes, sometimes engineers do use a setscrew to keep another threaded fastener from moving.
