Actually no. With brushless motors, as long as you stay below 160, you are fine. 120 is fine, barely even warm to the touch. Now, if it is HOT, definately drop a tooth or two. But at 120, you are way better than safe. Picture this, I am only getting to 98 degrees on my motor running a final drive of 9.95. I am jumping up two teeth on the pinion, figuring to get in the 125 degrees range, killing some low end and putting it on the top.

As far as your pack, brushless are power hungry. You will eventually have to upgrade, if not to Li-Po, at least to some IB 3800's. Those puppies feed the voltage. And dont be afraid to monitor those cells, you dont want them hot enough to loosen the battery bars, ending your race (and fun).
