I dated (and even got serious with) enough needy girls that I knew when I escaped the last one unscathed, I'd rather be alone and take home the occasional girl from a bar than be with someone that wanted to run my life. I got lucky eventually, and met/married a girl that had her own life, and much like myself, didn't want someone to come in and try to change it. It works out well both for us.
Now, with that said, I try to be considerate of her. I limit myself to racing once a week, and will only go a second time if she's got something specific to do that I can opt out of. I think as long as she feels like I'm not putting my hobbies ahead of her, and I'm thoughtful about how I spend my time doing them, then it's a good thing. I've been back in R/C for two years now, and the worst she's done is give me a sad face when I try to leave her alone on Sunday to race for a second time, and she doesn't have anything interesting to do. I find it best to abide by the sad face, and stay home. :-)
