Not sure I am following you here Ziggy. The nut tightens against the flywheel. If the flywheel was 1mm out from the crankcase and you then put another 5mm spacer in then would the nut also not move outwards 5mm????

Therefore you can always measure from the end of the nut to the spring collar as this part of the setup remains constant regardless the position of the flywheel from the crankcase.
