And if an engine needs to be that hot to run properly then it has some serious design flaws, or more likely the pipe is out of tune until the ex gas temp comes up. Id try different pipes on the suspect engine.
I've won quite a number of races with my CRF "screaming" at 300F.

Well, now that you mention it, I was wondering how long it would take before the idea crossed your mind. All you have to do is partner up with an engine manufacturer. I would definitely buy and engine you designed!
