There's a decent amount of info on the web about tuning stock motors. This tutorial is a little bit dated, but I've seen it recommended here several times in the past, and it seems to be a good source of information if you're getting started. Motors tend to lose their "tune" after they've been run a few times, so you'll be at a much bigger advantage if you learn to do these things yourself.
