We have had problems with many esc's when using spektrum receivers. The spektrum boot-up time is too great to get into set-up mode (sometimes).
All you have to do is pull the red wire from the plug (from esc to receiver) and power up the receiver with a seperate power source ( receiver pack for nitro cars). Then proceed as normal.
