First, I put them into an ultrasonic jewelery cleaner with just enough automotive brake cleaner to cover them. Give them a good buzz in that then remove them, place them on a towel and spray them all with some Electronic contact cleaner. This removes all the brake cleaner and any other bits of dirt left over. Then they all get oiled with some Respo EPO oil, given a little spin on my finger and they are done. If any are still "crunchy" after this process, I throw them out.
Otherwise I would soak them in Brake cleaner overnight.
