In stock trim the foam Mi2EC is still awesome. If you don't want to piece together Pro4 steering parts and/or do the T2 mod it's not needed.
I've been running a completely stock Mi2 EC USA Spec with no problems. Using a version of Seaballages' setup it works great. Maybe Seaball can comment but I believe he is running a stock car as well.
