Hi guys. Greetings from Malta.
I don't understand all the fuss about diff outdrive wear.
My son has raced a very competitive TC3 in mod for the last 3 seasons. This season alone he has so far won all 8 rounds of the National Championship. In yesterday's round he actually lapped the second placed TC3. So he is quick, and so is the car.
I wasted my money last season on titanium diff outdrives. The wear on these was so alarming that I had to put the stock AE plastic ones back on after just 2 rounds of the championship.
So we are back on plastic outdrives. At the beginning of this season I put a set of titanium drive shaft assemblies on. Again I am going to have to replace these before the next round because they are just about to fall apart with wear.
In the past 2 seasons of racing we used the stock AE alloy drive shafts and never had any bother. I start a new season with new ones just as a precaution. So it will now be back to factory parts for us.
There is very little wear in the factory alloy drive shafts, and even less in the plastic diff outdrives, and these are so cheap to replace that it has got to be the best way to go.
Oh by the way. The only maintainance is a spot of oil before a race weekend, and wash the whole lot clean after racing. I have never needed to dismantle the diffs in 8 championship rounds of racing, though I will do so now, at the half way stage, to change the driveshafts back to stock, and to wash out and regrease the diffs.
regards
Joe from sunny Malta.
