Most of the time my wheels are as shot as the tires and I toss them.
When I want to save the wheels I use the baking method. It's safe, easy and quick but does stink somewhat.
Heat the tire/wheel in the oven (I use an old toaster oven outdoors) to 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. The glue will be toast and the tire will peel right off. Clean off the residual glue and rubber from the wheel and you are good to go.
This method allows you to reuse the foams.
