Am I searching for the right amount of traction? I guess I still don't have a grasp on why you would want flex over no flex.

After that, start tring different flex options. Some even take out the brace between the rear bulkheads. Flex should be one of the last things you do when you have tried everything else. Try looking on X-rays site for setup. There are some good setups there for rubber tires.
