I just won the spring points series at my local track with the MST-1. I have had it since day one of its release and was thinking of switching to AE/Losi. I then thought why? The truck is dialed, hardly breaks and is still competitve with Drake 2's and Gt's. So really there is no reason to switch or be afraid of the truck. Just stock up on some spares for the track and get it setup right from the beginning and you will be fine. It only needs about 2-3 hopups to be competitve and a tank out of the box.
