Default Engine Overheating - Change of wheel Size?

Hi

I recently changed my wheels from a 1:10 to a 1:8 - I'm running a Tamiya Nitro Thunder. Prior to changing the wheels my car seems fine but after i've changed it i notice my engine heats up very quickly after a short run, at one point there was a small puff of smoke too (luckily my engine is still alive!) - it went up to 90 degrees C.

My question is, is my problem caused by my gears? I havent changed my driven gear thus making the engine spin harder to push the larger wheels (since the wheels are now bigger). the hobby shop guy suggest i should change the driven gear so its better suited for the larger wheels, but didnt say it will over heat my engine.... ?!? whats your call guys. thanks for any advice

p.s new wheels are definetely worth it! heaps better steering but doesnt cover a smoked engine!
