trey,
i don't know about carbon buildup but i know for sure 170-190 degrees is way too cold for these motors to operate. you aren't hot enough to even seat the parts for break in. i know that running them cold like that does a lot of damage to the internals because the motor is designed to run at a certain temperature. much hotter than 170. more like 220 or more.
