Never been to the Cotswolds, but I always run my TS Atlas 2 gears higher (48 pitch) than say a C2 based motor. If you say the other guys were on abround the 4.9 why werent you following there ratios. It sounds to me you were well under geared
What were the colour of your brushes after it got real hot? I run the H1 brush and have found them to be very consistant when you get the gearing right.
