For Bridgeport, the neutral setting is fine, any more and you're just creating friction for the car.
Bridgeport has a pretty smooth surface, its usually the little things that fall off the trees and grass that get your belts, those will get you no matter how tight your belt is.
If you find your self driving on a rough surface where you might need it, it's a different story then but you say you've had no problems.
