I was also looking into just getting the regular polished edition and not the red edition until I have gotten more comfortable with 1/12..

the standard kit comes with green tires F & R ($30 to get correct compound tires), small ring diff ($45+ to upgrade to a larged-ring diff), and non lowered rear pod plates ($30 to get lowered CRC plates to get more use from your tires)
the team red kit for $55 more is worth it. plus it has more options than just those three items mentioned above, aluminum screws, low roll center mod, etc. etc.
