You should be fine......
If you are still worried when you extend the rod towards the spur gear, just flip the holder part towards the inside of the servo horn. That will keep it straight instead of being angled. You will get a better pull on the lever.
I run a Nova P5X and a Nova 3 port. Both are great engines. I run mostly on short indoor clay tracks though.
