I had the exact same problem getting the pivotball to thread into the arm. I tapered the threads on the pivotball, and still couldn't get it in. The way I resolved it was to replace the pivotball. And add this pivot to the pile of bent pivotballs. Hope this is helpfull.
It shouldn't be that hard.. make sure you apply the black grease to it before winding in..
