with a center one-way the front belt (and front pulley, and front one-way housing) can move faster than the center shaft (but not faster than the wheels, because this would cause the front one-way to lockup and transfer).

conversely with a locked center pulley the front belt (and front pulley and front one-way housing) have to move at the same speed as the center shaft.

so when you get off power without center one-way the front half of the drivetrain has to slow down, so that when you get back on power all of that mass has to be accelerated.

with center one-way that mass can continue spinning at some speed that is faster than the center shaft. so that when you accelerate again only the center shaft (and rear drivetrain) have to accelerate for awhile to catch up to (and then accelerate) the front drivetrain parts.

basically it gives you better acceleration to run double one-way vs locked pully front one-way.
