I made aluminium outdrives for the Alex Barracuda one year ago and had them in my car for 6 month before I switched to Yokomo. And I never snapped a pin, bent a dogbone or wear out a wheel axle.
So that's nothing I worry about. The only thing that is absolutely necessary are blades. But the ones from Xray are fitting really well (aswell as the one-way outdrives).

We are running Ti Racing CVDs, I am concerned about the pins that slide on the outdrives. If you had blades to guard the pins on aluminium that would be one thing, but most people do not have that on their CVDs using a Yokomo. Seems to me that either stock plastic outdrives or Delrin outdrives are the way to go. The stock plastic ones are cheap and last a long time anyway. But if you want to spend money and time on that sort of thing, well, that's up to you.
