Engine and motor are really actually synonymous.(Motor vehicle, motor oil, etc. are all for "engines") I believe technically, an engine is a type of motor, since a motor is anything that produces motion. However, the electric motors we call are called motors because they convert electrical energy into mechanical. Engines operate off of internal or external combustion. So, an engine is a motor, but a motor isn't an engine necessarily.
