For a P5, the bottom probably shouldnt be flush. Try to go a little leaner on the bottom. I dont touch the mid needle unless the engine is too rich at idle and the idle increases because of too much fuel entering the carb.
P5's are really stubborn to tune if your low end isn't close to perfect. Try race tuning the top first, and then lean the bottom so the engine drops right back down to idle.
BTW: With the Nova P5's, 4 out on the top is about 1/4-1/2 richer than it should be.
All engines run differently, just do whatever works for ya. You could always go back to stock settings and re-tune.
