If I am not mistaken (please correct me if I am wrong, as it has been a long time since I ran a dampener plate car), the springs on those plates should be set one way, and dampening should be controlled with different lubes, similar to side dampener tubes.

I don't recall ever seeing anyone use different springs on the dampner plates, but my memory isn't always as sharp as I thought it once was.
