This is what i do & works for me Tin the end of the brush shunt by holding it with long nose plyers, have about 4/5mm sticking out from the end, this will stop tha solder running up to far tweek end of shunt about 45deg's, have endbell ready (tined) solder them on while holding it with tha plyers
