For play tires, HPI X-Patterns work really well and seem to last forever around here (I used one set for two full seasons of non-TCS racing). As ugly as the rims get, they seldom really get bad enough for me to throw away. And if they seem to wobble on the axle, get a set of the clamp-on type wheel adapters from Tamiya (they're the silver ones). wOw.

And believe it or not, even the wode sedan inserts fit inside a mini tire. Some guys cut them down a little on the outside but if you really want to stuff a tire, that's the way to do it.
