I actually re-integrated that bearing, I had to do it to keep the thrust perfectly aligned, it was a pain to set up perfectly without the second bearing but it's a piece of cake now. It may be a fraction heavier but we are probably talking about a few tenths of a gram. I don't have to replace the bearing every other week or so and it is easy to set up. Just a quick clean once a month and we are back to silky smooth time. You may be right that it doesn't make a better diff but it makes a perfect diff easier to achieve and will last longer between maintenances.
