A while back there was a turf track in my area. From what I remember it had the same issue as carpet and clay concrete in that tires were the fastest the first couple runs and quickly dropped off afterwards.
This is one interesting thing about our clay track, new tires are horrible and actually the oldest, nappiest slicks people have are usually the best and we can get a number of race days out of a set.
