When you are running unloaded and pulling 3.45 amps you are going to have to gear higher than someone running the same motor pulling 5-6 amps. But, their motor will produce more heat and the efficiency will not be as good as yours. If you have a motolyser you can plot an rpm vs amp draw graph to find what timing is the most efficient. Every time I do this I find that when a motor is pulling 5+ amps unloaded, the amps are going up a lot more than the rpm. I'm going to summon Bry195 , he can go into a lot more detail if you want.
