Been working on my car, watching youtube videos to better help my understanding of how the mini-z works compared to the rc's I'm used to, and it is helping. Now have my car balanced pretty well and working as it should, and I have been testing different front tires and front springs and it's good. Also after continued issues with the diff, I looked closely and the pinion was slipping and binding with the spur. This seems to be happening because of slop in the factory motor mount, wear of the pinion, slop in the spur/gear diff. The gear mesh was too loose for my liking when I switched from the stock 6T to the 7T to run Box Stock, but the motor and mount were tight. SO with no other 7T pinions I put the 8T on from the RTR parts, and WOW it meshes perfect, it is SOOOO much quieter, and I seem to have better control of the car in terms of throttle input/reaction.
I know this will take me out of Box Stock until I can get some 7T pinions in, and can learn to fix the mesh with a 7T, but I am wanting to try a disk damper setup anyway so Stock it is for now. And is it just me, or do the companys who make the parts and upgrades of the mini-z seem to make it a point to give very little detail or instructions on what is need to install/use the parts??? Trying to figure out what it will take to install a disk damper setup with factory motor pods or even their aluminum pods, is crazy. I can understand retailers not having tons of info on each part, as that's a lot of data to deal with, but the manufactures of the parts/upgrades have no more or sometimes less. And while I am 100% Country Boy and can figure out a way to make almost anything work, when you have to order parts and pieces to make an upgrade work it would be nice to know! The cost of shipping let alone the down time of ordering extra parts makes this aggravating!
Anyway I really like the speed this layout has! I'm able to run mid to high 4 second laps consistently while keeping the laps as clean as possible. I had 3 laps fail to count, and I only had to reverse 4 times in the 8-20 set of laps. I went to Kyosho low height from super low front tires and I have better control and steering. I'm really enjoying seeing my times shrink with pratice and better setup with better understanding of the car!!! Hopefully my back will allow me to go to the Sunday night open track at the new rc shop and try a full size track, and maybe someone there will have a NB4 to check out!
