Tim, the motors and esc are pretty straightforward in this class, especially at HT-SC (which is where I assume you are running). Make sure your esc is calibrated correctly and set to blinky mode. The only tuning option for the esc I would recommend is drag brake, try 5-7%. From there, I would focus on gearing. For St. Charles, I think I was running a ~4.3-4.5 FDR. I believe I had 99/42T spur/pinion. For setup, I ran the box T4'21 carpet setup from XRAY, and there wasn't really anything more I needed from the car. There was a tenth or two more to find in the setup, but it was good enough for me. Sauce w/SXT black for five minutes, and then wipe completely clean w/a clean towel a few minutes before your race.
Have Matt DG or Mike K take a look at your car next time you're there. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you some advice. Not sure how long they keep the on-road layout down, but track time is the most important thing you can invest in. Get there early to practice if you can, and try to stop in for practice during the week, if available.
thanks for the advice, I will look at changing the ESC to the suggested settings and redoing the spur/ pinion and see how it does.
