Well think about it this way and then re-think your question....3 oz is 5.7% of the 52oz legal weight...so if you can gain that type of weight advantage then it would be huge...tell an F1 or NASCAR team that they could be 3% lighter then the competition and you would have a dominate car....Oh WAIT BAR already tried that 
Sure shedding 3 oz will get you to that first contact with the wall quicker!!
I just run club races, and for the most part its not the fastest guy that wins, its the guy who can keep it between the boards most consistently.
