The downside of low-cost chassis that has a lot of aluiminum is that they use a lower grade alloy that's just weaker than what you see on more expensive kits. They might bend in a hard crash and it may be hard to notice where exactly.
IMO it's much better to have plastic than a low grade aluminum alloy, even more if one crashes a lot. They won't look as good, but also won't be as frustrating.
Most of the alloy parts on the R3 are identical to the higher tier MTS cars, so there's no drop in quality. It's the steel parts like drive shafts where they cheap out.
