That sounds like the esc wasn't setup right, or didn't have enough options. Id believe some laptime was improved over some old 40-50a esc's but still theres not much difference between a 160A HW, Reedy 510R or Orion now Performa HMX.
I tend to wonder if there is any real difference between the top tier ESC from any of the major manufacturers.
